Background
I have been working in-house at Vodafone within their 'Home app' team as a Senior Product Designer since April 2024, helping to successfully deliver new product features and updates to market whilst also exploring the future of 'Home'.
Vodafone's award winning Home Broadband app allows its users to easily manage and control their home broadband, from setting up their router to smart features such as checking who's at home or managing your energy consumption.

From the dashboard, users are given an overview of the different features provided through their broadband. These tiles offer the ability to enable smart modes, for prioritising devices on their network, or the ability to easily view the devices which are currently connected in their home.

Beyond great broadband, Vodafone Home aims to offer a range of new services. Such as a Smart Motion Sensing service that allows you to see activity at home with a passive WiFi solution. Know when your family arrives home with a new ‘Who’s Home’ feature and automate your home with connected devices like lighting, heating and more.

Eco mode enables users to reduce their energy consumption within the home, providing the tools to monitor internet usage, set usage schedules and to view the impact of these changes.




The WiFi Scheduler allows you to easily set schedules and manage your WiFi connectivity, helping you save energy.

From the dashboard users can create custom schedules in the week, when they would like to reduce the frequency of their router or turn their WiFi off completely to save energy.

Once users have set an energy saving goal, we have then explored how these metrics are made accessible, and how to best communicate their savings in a way that feels tangible.






User testing and feedback
User testing and feedback
We carried out 60 minute moderated user testing interview sessions with 8 participants living in the UK. Participants would be unfamiliar with Eco Mode, so they were first shown a proposition statement giving a high-level description of Eco Mode.
They were then shown a prototype of Eco Mode user journeys, including setting up a Schedule, showing different Home app dashboard states and Energy Insights.

This new feature uses intelligent device recognition to notify households when a member has arrived or left home.
Within the who's home page users can choose to create a profile for each member of the household, they will then be able to have an overview of when household members are at home, helping to achieve the vision of a smarter and more connected household.

Unity is the new design system being used across Vodafone's latest products and services. Through Unity, we seek to enhance the user experience and maintain consistency across the Home products. We have been working to completely redesign the Ultra Hub App to align with the upcoming innovative products like Smart Wi-Fi Backup and Smart Motion Sensing.
